Not-so-secret Sweets

Got more goodies today. This time, he gave us homemade fudge---(chocolate-peanut-butter)...and delivered it in class. Everyone was jealous. Maybe I should start making requests for particular kinds of treats?....since, he's going to bake for us anyways...it may as well be something I really like so that it's worth the calories right? Hmmmm...I don't think it's quite reached the point where I can draft my own personal menu.....yet.

2nd Row Seats for the Wizards v. Grizzlies Game!!

Last night, I went to my first Wizards game! It was SO much fun!! I love basketball. And what was even more incredible was that we had 2nd row seats!! (face value = $450 per ticket) I went with Justin, an old friend I knew at BYU. I ran in to him when I went to the DC 2nd Ward back in December. He's in his first year of medical school out here at the military's hospital ( I can't remember what it's called)...he just joined the Air Force. Justin's friend got the tickets through his work....(i need to find myself a place like that!). Here's some pics from the game!

I decided that if this whole law school thing doesn't work out, I can be an NBA freethrow coach!!

Which reminds me...I have a solution to the problem of lack of funding for education in America: (Now, this will obviously require government regulations...BUT) Professional sports teams should be forced to give a very large percentage of the money they pay their athletes to certain assigned school districts. Not only would this lower the ridiculous salaries that are only getting more out of control (there were players who made over $85,000 playing in that single game last night), but it would provide huge resourcs for schools. And for the districts they are assigned to that are not nearby (like someone's gotta take the utah districts, etc.), it would increase their fan base as new communities support the teams after all the publicity of their local generosity. It would also send the message to young kids that although sports are really great, education is important...so important that we are willing to invest in it. Now, just think: there are 30 NBA teams, 32 NFL teams, and 30 Major league baseball teams (we'll excuse the NHL...they have enough problems...or just give all their school districts to the Yankees...i think they can afford it)...they could do SO much good!! Especially if we required them to donate something like 50% of the money on their player pay roll....I'm sorry, but I just don't feel all that bad about A-Rod making $14million a year rather than his current $28million!

Joys of g-chat

So, due to frustration regarding my Legal Research & Writing assignment in which I have to write a summary judgment motion / memorandum on behalf of a landlord who was sued when she refused to let a handicapped man rent a vacant apartment for various reasons....this has been my g-chat status for the past day or so:

• Carly "hates the handicapped...not really...just hates writing motions for them...let's be honest, I pretty much am handicapped...and have the rolley bag to prove it!"

Corban was making me feel bad for having that posted, so I took it down this afternoon. Immediately thereafter, Corban changed his status to:

• "Carly hates the handicapped..."

And then Derek jumped in and changed his status to:

• "Carly thinks the handicapped have no reason to live."

And then it became a competition...

Then it was hilarious because I went to go to class about ten minutes later and ran into Derek and Corban just coming out of their classes and we all just started laughing hysterically! (Oh, and I should probably note that "none of the views expressed in the funny comments above relfect my own personal opinion...I love all handicapped people. :) ")

ps: i must lead an enchanted life...because I thought I lost my metro card today on my way to school when I took my ipod out of my pocket to change the song ($30 down the drain)because when I got to the station, it wasn't there....I was so sad!! But, when I got home tonight,...there it was...it had fallen out of my pocket when I changed songs before I left....I seriously had thought there was no possible chance that it would be there...I am so blessed.

Secret Sweets

So...there's this guy at school who takes it upon himself to bring Callie and I baked treats...pretty often. Like...the past 3 school days in a row...different treats. Did I mention he BAKES them. Friday we got cookies with a reeses peanut butter cup baked into the middle. Tuesday we got chocolate cookies. Then today he made us a pie...yes...a pie. It had a cookie dough type filling...don't worry, he provided us with detailed instructions of how to bake it ourselves so that we could eat it when it was fresh out of the oven. Don't laugh cause I'm not joking here...it's true. And he isn't bringing stuff for our whole class...just Callie and I. We usually each get our own little baggie of goodies equally divided up between us. Or sometimes it's just a big tupperware. And the funny part is that he doesn't really talk to us in person...he just emails Callie and tells her about the drop off. I imagine this is what it is like for all those college athletes who have random girls that they hardly even know dropping off treats for them...and they don't even have to do anything to get it...I mean...I feel kinda bad...but I'm not complaining...he can betty crocker it up all he wants!

GW v. Xavier

Tonight, Callie, Randy (a friend from school), and I went to see the GW mens basketball team play Xavier at the Charles E. Smith Center on campus. It was my first time going to a game back here...and it was a rivalry game! We ended up losing by about 5 points but it was really fun! The arena isn't very big...probably seats aroung 5,000...but it's nice cause students get in free. I also want to go in two weeks when we play St. Joseph's. BUT my ultimate quest of the basketball season is to see a big ACC game...preferable Maryland v. Duke or Maryland v. UNC....we'll see if my dreams come true...

sad day

So, I just got my first semester grades...and I'm kinda disappointed about two of them...but Callie just reminded me that guys don't like smart girls...so I guess I have that going for me ;) jk

But I bought myself metro flowers on my way home from school (before I checked my transcript) just in case I needed a little cheering up...

A couple firsts

So, last night I received a DC text message Alert warning about some huge storm that was to come today. Then today, I received another saying that all government employees still have to come to work tomorrow despite the snow (haha)....Okay...so it didn't snow today, it didn't rain...it slurpeed. That's my new word for the continual slush. And everybody was talking about school closures though there was only about an inch and a half of the stuff....

Also, tonight I went to Bar Review for the first time...yay for me...trying to be more social with other students from the law school. It was a mixed event at Club 1223 in DC near Dupont Circle between both GW law school and American University law school. Lots of people went and it was really fun to get to talk to some of the people that I see everyday but have never taken much time to get to know. Don't worry Mom, I got my buddy Corban to come with me as my bodyguard...he's a 2L at GW and is in my ward. It was really fun. Everybody knows that I don't drink so that wasn't an issue at all...it was basically the same as a dance party in provo...except for a few drinks.

Law School Quote of the Day

Today in Civil Procedure we were talking about how if a witness is going to be unavailable for trial, you can have their deposition read to the jury as an alternative. However, you can't utilize this if you are the one who procured the party or witness' absence. Professor Friedenthal is hilarious and is always cracking jokes...but it's so adorable because he's like 85 yrs old:

"You wanted to use the deposition instead because your witness talked in a whiny [yes, he immitated the high pitched squeal as he said this] annoying voice and looked like hell…so…you gave 'em a ticket to Kenya, said: "go see the animals," and told 'em not to come back till the trial was over" - Prof. Friedenthal

Gracie & Aunt Carly....I love her!!

I miss being home! I was definitely spoiled by the incredible 3 weeks off for Christmas break! I miss my family so much! And it just felt so good to be around old friends....what a great feeling it is to be with people who know you well!! There's just an understanding and nothing needs to be said. I miss that being so far away from home. But on a happier note...how adorable is Grace!

I love her and miss her tons!
